Gamification is coming to banking. This phenomenon is already gaining ground in advertising, healthcare, manufacturing, and, more recently, with the GameStop and AMC meme stock saga in securities trading. The idea behind gamification is to make transactions seem fun, playful, and even casino-like in order to elicit habit-forming, addictive-like effects with consumers. We argue that the rise of financial technology (fintech) firms and their ever-growing business relationships with incumbent financial institutions has created the necessary conditions for gamification to take hold in the banking sector. In order to explore this observation, we undertake a study of current examples of banking gamification and create a novel taxonomy of instances where fintech firms and banks offer financial products and services using business models that rely upon on high levels of customers, transaction activity and engagement, and that frequently use the power of social media and online communities. Baylor Law School seeks candidates for three tenure-track positions to fill several curricular needs. Washington University School of Law invites applications from entry-level or lateral candidates for tenure-track and tenured positions, to begin in the fall of 2024. We are searching for entry level, tenure-track faculty, particularly in private law, as well as tenure-track or lateral appointments in family law, health law, intellectual property and/or technology and the law, and empirical legal analysis.

Candidates must have at a minimum a JD or, in certain cases, the equivalent in a related field. Entry level candidates should have strong scholarly potential and a commitment to excellence in teaching. Lateral candidates should have demonstrated scholarly excellence and evidence of teaching success. Strong candidates will demonstrate the ability to create inclusive classrooms and environments in which students can learn and thrive. Duties for all faculty will include engaging in research and producing scholarship, teaching assigned courses, advising students, and participating in law school and university governance and service.
